1. Context

Integrated Management of European Commission’s network.

The SNet Network consists of:
• The LAN in the Commission’s buildings (approximately 80 buildings spread over Brussels, Luxembourg)
• The connections between these buildings
• Secure connections with the outside world. It also includes the connections that enable teleworking.

The scope of services extends to the provision of the following support services:
 Managing the network and security of the Commission
 Day to day operation
 Construction and design
 Testing of new equipment, releases and configurations
 Development of the services

A team of 40 people is working permanently on-site (Brussels and Luxembourg).

2. General Activities:

 Manage projects to make the network security evolve (Design & construction of new technologies and security equipment to support the security evolution)
 Participate (1 to 2 half-days per week) to Front Office role within Network Operations Center (monitor the network, provide quick diagnosis, escalate and follow-up, dispatch trouble tickets).
 Testing of new configuration, equipment and releases
 Reporting on network/security usage and performance
 Develop and maintain a high standard of documentation (procedure, process)
 2nd level network support: participate in the troubleshooting of network problems after escalation


3. Specific Activities:

• Team member of the security team ( 7 engineers)
• Management of the firewall infrastructure, Juniper and CheckPoint
• Management of the DNS infrastructure, multiple levels, based on BIND.
• Management of Proxy servers, based on software solution and appliances.
• Management of Reverse Proxy servers, based on appliances.
• Management of VPN Concentrators, based on Cisco technologies
• Management of a PKI, based on SunMicrosystem Certificate Server
• Responsible for incident management of the firewalls, DNS, proxy, reverse proxy and VPN.
• Responsible for “move add and change” request concerning security.
• Scripting (Perl, Ksh).
• Responsible for the system evolution, patch management, release notes.
• Integration of new system in the management infrastructure

4. Technical knowledges:

• Internet technologies : DNS, HTTP, XML, SSL, TCP, UDP.
• Checkpoint and Juniper firewalls
• Bluecoat SGOS 4.X and 5.X
• Solaris 8 and 9, Linux (Debian, RedHat)
Skills required:

• Excellent written and verbal communication (French and English).

5. Location and Timing issues:

 Provision of the above mentioned services basically in Luxembourg, with a possibility to work in Brussels about 1 day per month.
 Project Business hours: 7H-19H => being able to regularly start at 7AM and being able to regularly end at 7PM
 Occasional interventions outside of normal working hours may be requested
 On-call permanence during nights or weekends (about 1 week every 5 weeks).
